Overview Project Outreach Outreach Ministries

Congregations for the Homeless

Each July, St. Thomas hosts homeless men from the Eastside, providing shelter and food.

Companion Connections

This group encourages, cultivates, and fosters relationships and partnerships that further God’s kingdom at home and abroad. We reach out beyond the parish in prayer, partnering, communication, and financial support to embrace those who hurt, especially as we help support our companion church, St. Andrew’s, Ramallah.

The Giving Tree

Together with La Iglesia de la Resurrección in Mount Vernon, we provide Christmas gifts and new clothes for children living in the Skagit Valley, primarily from families of migrant farm workers of Hispanic descent. These Christmas gifts are most likely the only gifts the children will receive.

Lakiya Bedouin Women's Rug Project

Sales of hand-woven wool rugs benefit their makers, the Bedouin women in the impoverished village of Lakiya, Israel, in the Negev Desert. The rugs are shown and sold at Episcopal Church fairs and bazaars. Help is needed in merchandising and selling the rugs.

Sandwich makers

Sandwich Makers

For more than 30 years, this group has been making sandwiches for the families and homeless men of the Family and Adult Service Center in Seattle. We meet at 9:00 am on the first Wednesday of each month in the Great Hall kitchen, and we always need and welcome new team members.

Teen Ministry in El Salvador

Each year since 2005, St. Thomas has sent members of the Youth Group to El Salvador to work on community development projects and to make connections with Anglicans in that country.

Our 2008 pilgrims are now raising funds for their trip, which is slated for August 10-19. The team members are Rachel Best, Adam Breunig, SoAngela Hardt, Christy Hosler, Josh Hosler, Sarah Hosler, Matt Lanier, the Rev. Mary MacKenzie, Lily Moodey, Megan Waddell, and Sam Wang.

Thanksgiving Dinner with Those in Need

St. Thomas delivers Thanksgiving dinners to recipients of Hopelink Assistance who request them. In 2007, we served 360 people! These meals are provided by contributions from the parish and are cooked, assembled, and delivered by members of the parish.

Following the deliveries, St. Thomas parishioners enjoy Thanksgiving dinner together as a church family. In 2007, 70 people shared dinner together.

Together Together We BuildWe Build

This multi-faith coalition of a dozen Eastside faith communities provides Habitat for Humanity of East King County with funding and volunteers to build affordable housing. We seek greater understanding by working together on a common, constructive project. For details, visit  www.togetherwebuild.org.

Transitional Housing/Life Coaching

This program helps men graduate from Congregations for the Homeless into permanent housing, using life coaching to promote self-sufficiency. Such residences provide affordable facilities for five men, with one resident manager overseeing the process of reintegration into the greater community.
