Education @ St. Thomas

Bible Study Formation Resources

This page says "Education" at the top ... but that's just scratching the surface. Within the church, we talk about "Formation," the lifelong process by which we orient ourselves to God's dreams for our world.

St. Thomas offers many ways for you to learn more about the Bible, church history, and theology, and to deepen your faith throughout the entire process.

Welcome to St. Thomas!

This general introduction to St. Thomas is a three-session series occurring twice a year, and it aims to acquaint newcomers to our parish and introduce them to the Episcopal Church. Topics include:

  • Learning more about our music and liturgy (including a guided tour of our worship space)
  • The distinguishing marks of St. Thomas and the Episcopal faith
  • An introduction to various ministries and opportunities for adults and children to deepen one’s relationship with God.

The series is facilitated by the staff of St. Thomas.

The next "Welcome to St. Thomas!" series will take place in the fall of 2008.

Sunday Forums

At 9:15 each Sunday morning during the program year, a staff person, parishioner, or special guest presents a forum or part of a forum series.

May 11: PENTECOST (no forum).

May 18: Parish Profile Committee. As a follow-up to the parish survey which has just been distributed, please take part in a focus group session. Parishioners will consider questions for input in the Parish Profile. Scott Manning and the Parish Profile Committee will lead the discussion. (You can take the Parish Profile survey now.)

Baptismal Preparation

This class prepares parents and godparents for their child’s baptism through engaging discussions about why we baptize, what it accomplishes, and what it means for a person’s life in the context of a community of faith.

Our next baptismal preparation class with the Rev. Steve Best will lead to baptisms on Pentecost Sunday, May 11.

  • Saturday, May 3, 2008, 10:00-11:30: Part 1
  • Saturday, May 10, 2008, 10:00-11:30: Part 2

Pentecost services:

Sunday, May 11, 2008,  8:00 or 10:15 am

The Journey

St. Thomas Catechumenal Process

Where are YOU on the journey?

Have you never been baptized? Are you baptized, but feeling a pull toward a renewed commitment to Christ?

The Journey is for adults wishing to be baptized; it’s also for anybody else who wants to publicly reaffirm their Christian faith.

Whether you’re new to Christianity, new to the Episcopal Church, or simply feel a call to a deeper proclamation of your faith, the Journey is for you. It is a program of education as a Sunday afternoon community. But more importantly, you will be paired with another member of the congregation who will act as your sponsor.

The Journey culminates each year with baptisms at the Great Vigil of Easter and reaffirmations of faith (including confirmation) at Saint Mark’s Cathedral the next week.
